  • Kim Kardashian West revealed in her new cover story for CR Fashion Book that her kids helped inspire her newfound passion for social justice and prison reform.
  • "I'm raising four black kids in this society and our system is so discriminatory against black and brown people. I want to do as much as I can to make their lives easier," West told the magazine.
  • West is set to release an upcoming documentary, Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project, in April.

Kim Kardashian West credits her kids for inspiring her recent foray into social justice.

In a new cover story with CR Fashion Book, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and beauty mogul provides insight into why she decided to use her high-profile platform to highlight criminal justice and prison reform.

"I'm raising four black kids in this society and our system is so discriminatory against black and brown people. I want to do as much as I can to make their lives easier…I never knew much about the system until I started to dig in," said West, per People, "and once I learned and saw how many things were wrong, I really couldn't stop."

West's upcoming documentary, an Oxygen original film titled Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project airing on the network in April, will follow the reality star as she meets, interviews, and works to help incarcerated individuals who she believes deserve a second chance. The project will also tap into the West's decision to attend law school and study for the California bar exam.

"My evolution on this is probably some combination of growing up, getting married, having kids, and my life being so different than what it was when I was starting out," explained West. "Now, I feel like I have a duty to myself and to my children more than the public and I want to be a good role model for my kids."
